Valerie Anne Bertinelli (born April 14, 1970) is an American writer and actress. The twice Golden Globe Award winning star gained notoriety through her appearances in the CBS show One Day at a Time and as Barbara, and Hot in Cleveland where she portrayed Melanie Moretti. In her teens she started acting, and has grown into an experienced character actress. The friendship she shared with the daughter of a TV producer while she was just young was a catalyst for her an interest in industry of television and she decided to pursue acting professionally. Bertinelli entered the television industry when she was a teenager, after having graduated from Tami Lynn School of Artists. She quickly became popular for her acting skills, poise and a confident demeanor. In addition to her tumultuous private life the battle with addiction as well as her efforts to regain her life, made her a popular television personality.
